A Final Conference to Showcase the Journey of My Diversity Our Strength

After 2 years of creation, experimentation and collaboration, the partners of My Diversity our Strength gathered last week for a final online conference entitled “Empowering Girls in STEM Through Game-Based Learning”.

This event was the perfect occasion to showcase our project results, celebrate achievements and explore game-based strategies to overcome gender stereotypes in girls’ access to STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) careers. We presented the three main outputs of the project – the Competence Framework, the Compass and the Escape box – but we also took everyone behind the scenes, offering the audience a glimpse backstage.

How did we identify the skills necessary to create engaging activities?
How did we build the escape box?
Why did we even choose the format of the escape game to tackle gender stereotypes in STEM ?
How did we embed inclusion in the project?

Each partner brought their own expertise and hands-on experience to answer these questions and more.

With the testing phase of the Escape box having been organized for the past three months, the conference was also the occasion to share inspiring stories and lessons learned. More than just a trial run, this has been a journey of discovery, growth, and teamwork. With over 150 young participants having dived into the experience, the partners underlined how the escape game has sometimes sparked remarkable transformations. Some youth participants started as quiet or even reluctant observers, until they gradually stepped into more active and even leading roles, proving how game-based learning can break down barriers and foster inclusion. Their stories were also testaments of how powerful educational games can be in helping young people discover their potential and connect with others.

Finally, the event brought valuable firsthand perspectives, such as the one of a teacher who integrated the game into her program. A Spanish volunteer also described the unique opportunity he got to experience the Escape box both as a participant and as a facilitator, offering a full-circle view of its impact. These voices, along with the ones of the partners, highlighted the dynamic and inclusive spirit at the heart of this innovative learning tool that, we hope, will be inspiring for others.

So what comes next?
As the project enters its final month, partners are preparing national events across participating countries. They will be important cornerstones for helping the project’s impact extend well beyond its official conclusion.
