My Diversity, Our Strength:
Breaking Gender Stereotypes in STEM

About

6 women from different origins

Gender stereotypes continue to limit girls’ access to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines and careers, creating a significant barrier to their personal and professional development. Despite numerous efforts, girls remain underrepresented in STEM fields, often due to cultural preconceptions and a lack of supportive resources.

The “My Diversity, Our Strength” project addresses these challenges by promoting gender equality and fostering an inclusive environment where girls can thrive in STEM. By equipping youth workers with innovative tools and methodologies, the project aims to dismantle stereotypes and encourage girls to pursue STEM careers.

“My Diversity, Our Strength” utilises a multidisciplinary approach that integrates game-based learning, gamification, and non-formal education techniques to create engaging and effective educational experiences. This initiative enables youth workers to design and implement activities that promote gender equality in STEM while also enhancing the STEM skills and competencies of young people, particularly girls, to increase their employability.

The project will produce a range of resources, including a Competence Framework, the My Diversity, Our Strength Compass, and the Escape Box. The Competence Framework serves as a foundational resource outlining the essential skills and competencies needed to address gender stereotypes in STEM. The Compass is a comprehensive tool that guides youth workers in designing effective non-formal education activities. The Escape Box is an innovative, game-based educational tool that enhances participants’ STEM skills through engaging puzzles and activities while also addressing gender bias. Additionally, a Final Online Conference will be held to present the project’s findings and foster dialogue among youth workers, educators, and stakeholders across Europe.

By providing youth workers and organisations with these structured tools and resources, “My Diversity, Our Strength” improves the approach to teaching STEM and gender equality. This not only makes learning more engaging but also ensures that the lessons learned are more likely to be applied in real-world scenarios.

All project outputs, including the Compass and Escape Box, will be tested by youth workers and participants across Europe to ensure their effectiveness and relevance. The results of these tests will be used to refine the resources, ensuring that they meet the educational needs of our stakeholders.
